Phil Salazar

Phil Salazar is a rare individual whose diverse talents are upstaged only by his genuine communication with a live audience. The high-spirited sounds of Phil Salazar have often been described as bluegrass, but he draws from a wealth of sources, including Rock, Blues, Country, Jazz, Irish, Middle Eastern, and Asian music to achieve his sound, which Salazar describes as "FOLK FUSION." His energy, enthusiasm, and up-front personality constantly keep the audience involved in the show!

Born into a family of serious classical musicians, and a fiddle champion in his own right, he spent many years of earnest study appearing frequently with his father's orchestra. At the age of 17 he heard the classic "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" record by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band featuring the renowned fiddler Vassar Clements. He left the violin world to become a fiddler. Over the years he toured the major cities of the United States with his own groups, HandPicked, The Phil Salazar Band, The Rincon Ramblers, and The Acousticats and with Nitty Gritty Dirt Band founder John McEuen. Curently Phil is touring with Bruce Forman's Cow Bop and his own Harlem Holler. He's also busy teaching his 50 students and running a local jam.
